Today on my lunchbreak I decided to head over to Ross and see if I could find any damask. I have seen stuff at this type of store before so I was pretty confident that I would find something. They actually didn’t have all that much. They had a couple of frames that were baroque style but not damask. They were mostly silver though and I would really like to stay with black and white. There was a pink damask decorative box, several damask photo albums (but I’ve seen these everywhere so I won’t have trouble finding one when the time comes), and several damask pillows. I took a picture of the ones that would work best in my wedding.. but I didn’t purchase them. They aren’t black and white, they are ivory and black. They are $8.99 each, and Ross has 4 of them. I’m sure I could find a use for them somewhere, they are really beautiful. I wish that they were white rather than ivory though because I think that it’s so much more modern. My other thing is.. I could always make throw pillows myself if I find that I really want to use them.

I also found another damask pillow that was black and silver, it was really nice, but the only one. On one of the shelves was a black and white damask lampshade, but I don’t need anything like that. Unless they were tiny shades to put on small lamp bases.

Has anyone seen any damask at any local stores? If you ever see anything, please send me a PIX message and let me know where it’s from!

They keep me up to date on what’s new, hot, and undiscovered. “From fashion and style to gadgets and travel. As useful as it is entertaining, it’s like getting an e-mail from your clever, unpredictable, and totally in-the-know best friend. The one who knows about secret beauty treatments, must-have jeans, hot new restaurants — and always shares the scoop.” You can subscribe to several metropolitan areas, like DC, Chicago, NYC, etc. I also love their cute illustrations. This week’s candy included a 25% off coupon code for this amazing screen print shop called Luxury Lab Linens. After consulting with Chris I ordered this really cool graphic duvet set, complete with two crow pillow shams. I’m also excited for their throw pillow collection that is coming soon! Thank goodness for daily candy, without this deal I would have never been able to own this wonderful piece of useful art!

These would be great for my annual holiday dinner party… hint hint. I loved these dishes but they could only be used at a certain time of year. So I googled the designer, Rosanna Inc and found that her site was loaded with more adorable dinnerware, I would be happy with almost anything from this site!

This passed weekend as I drove back and forth from Chris’s parent’s house and our new place, I noticed a yard sale. What drew me to it were two Japanese Shoji Screens. We didn’t have time to stop at the moment, but I went back later and asked the woman to hold one of them for me for $30 (!). She had originally bought them for $160, and they were still brand new as she never used them. Anyway, I didn’t have cash at the time so I told her I would come back for them later in the day.

Around 3:00 that afternoon I sent Chris over with the money to pick them up, but the yard sale was gone. I figured if I went over there I would be able to figure out which house the lady lived in (because they had taken the screen inside to save it for me). Luckily, I returned, money in hand, and my screen was safely inside their house!

It looks great in our bedroom, what a great find. I’ll post a picture asap.

With only 5 days left before I move, and some inspiration from HGTV, I did some serious re-doing and refinishing this weekend. First, there was my free-standing wood mirror. I got a faux finishing kit from The Home Depot and created this crackle effect on it. The process is kind of inconsistent, this is pretty much the largest “crackle” that I got. I still need to scrape the excess paint off the mirror part with a razer, I will post an image of the finished product afterwards.

My next project was to put drawer pulls on my vintage wooden dresser. My mom bought it at a thrift store and I stole it from her because it’s so cute! In order for it to go with Chris’ silver metal bed frame, I thought it needed metal drawer pulls. This project seemed simple in theory, but considering I have never used a drill before… well, you can probably imagine. I will post a finished project after I get some much needed help.

The most successful project of the weekend was re-upholstering a cheap chest that was a hand-me-down from my friend, Katie. It was covered in lime green vinyl and is in pretty bad shape. The frame of the hinged top is coming apart, it needs some serious TLC.

At first I thought that I would just have to cover over the vinyl and the screws, but I realized that it could easily be taken apart. So I unscrewed each panel and covered them with my beige fabric ($12 on clearance!) individually. It looks amazing. I am so proud of myself for recycling this piece instead of buying the $100 ottoman that I had already picked out! I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of it last night, but I will when I’m finished. I have the bottom part of the chest covered but I still have to do the lid and replace the hinges. Oh, and I also added wheels to the bottom so it’s easier to move around, the piece is super heavy. This is gonna make such a cute coffee table!

Chris helped me repaint a buffet table that is also in pretty bad shape. I don’t have any photos of it though. I painted it glossy black and am adding Victorian style glass knobs to it. Haven’t decided what kind of shelves though, either clear acrylic, glass, mirror, or the old particle board standby.

Update: The lime green chest’s transformation is complete! It’s face lift included shiny new hardware, wheel casters, and chic fabric. I had purchased some silver square studded upholstery tacks to create a tufted look on the top, but once I covered it I realized it didn’t need it. I really like the clean lines and I don’t think that a tufted look would “go.” I can’t wait to show my friend and see if she recognizes her child-hood toy chest!

Here is a photo that I took with my camera phone (so it’s crappy). I’m sure I will post more photos showcasing this piece when it’s set up in our condo!
